As part of the “99999 lights out campaign” organized by ExNoRa international a quiz program was conducted at the children’s park. The program was conducted in a very interesting way. Before the quiz a group of volunteers from ExNoRa took to the people by putting up awareness creation posters. They explained to people about global warming, the effects and how to solve them. Based on this information the quiz was conducted. The corporation counsel member Mrs. Lailama George presented the prizes. A crowd of more than 300 was present at the park, and they actively involved in the activities. The event was followed with various dance and music shows by the kids. The campaign asks people to switch off light for 9 minutes at 9 pm on 9/9/9, whereby they can unify in the fight against global warming.
ExNoRa INTERNATIONAL  is a Voluntary, Secular,  Non-governmental, Non-political and Non-profit Environmental Service Organisation  and  is a wide spread environmental movement founded in 1989 by  renowned Social Activist and “Master Motivator of Masses” Dr. M B Nirmal . The organisation focuses on mobilising and empowering communities to participate in preserving nature and preventing environmental degradation, thereby improving the quality of their life. It functions as ExNoRa Innovators Clubs in each town and village in many parts of India, Civic ExNoRas in Streets, Residential Colonies and Flat Complexes and Home ExNoRas in individual dwellings including houses and flats. Within twenty two years of its formation it has grown into a wide spread movement and it is a force to reckon with.

ExNoRa at present carries on a massive Cool the Globe campaign by name, “99999 lights out” essentially to create awareness on Global Warming its causes , consequences and solutions. The Campaign requires people to Switch off lights for 9 minutes at 9 p.m. on the 9th day of the 9th month on the 9th year of the millennium.

Global Warming:
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and it is projected to continue until the year 2100 showing an increase by 4.5 ¡C Global Warming includes  Sea Warming, Soil warming & Atmospheric warming

Threats faced by the planet:
Rise in temperature speed up the melting of Ice caps, Rise in sea level, land getting inundated by sea water, steep reduction in agricultural and sea food  production.

The Direct Effects

Harms the ecosystem, changes the rainfall patterns, results in sea level, extinction of the polar bear, destruction of coral reef, decline in agricultural yields, loss of biodiversity,  vast sections of the population  becoming orphans and environmental refugees

Aim of the 99999 Lights Out Campaign :
To combat Global warming. To make people more conscious about the environment, To motivate people to reduce their respective carbon footprint, To mitigate climate change. To teach people Adaptation and Disaster Preparedness techniques

To propagate environmental awareness through presentations, lectures, stickers, and hoarding.
