Airtel 16 Mbps Launched in Kochi

airtel-compaq-broadband

Everywhere we look you see hoardings or promotions for the “Fastest
Internet Connection”. With Reliance bringing out a whopping 3.1 Mbps
speed connection everyone knew that the reliance connection was the
fastest. And the internet junkies were on cloud 9 when they realised
that Cochin was one of the 35 cities the service has been launched. And
than it happened. Airtel on April 9th launched its 16 Mbps connection.
Till than the highest that airtel supported for home use was 2 Mbps.
They increased that by 8 folds! And whats great is that the service is
launched in Cochin too. This shows that Kochi city is an important
market.  If you are a new Airtel customer you can avail a new
broadband connection for Rs. 1000 (inclusive of modem and
installation) and choose from one of the two 16 Mbps plans the offer.

Speed Combo 2999 : With a monthly rental of Rs. 2999 you can avail the
16 Mbps connection with 20 GB download free. You will be charged 50
Paise for every additional MB.

Speed Combo 4999 : With this plan you can avail the 16 Mbps airtel
connection with a free download limit of 50 GB. As the previous plan
every additional MB will be charged 50 Paise.

If you are already an airtel user you would not have to pay anything
extra. Just call the customer service number 121 from the airtel land
line and they will assist you.

Speed wise its great we have an option for such speeds. But its always
a tragedy when you have the speeds but download limits. With this 16
Mbps connection you can:

  • Download a song in less than 3 seconds.
  • Download an entire movie in less than 10 minutes.

If you dont download much and use the internet mainly for email
surfing and chatting and if your longing for more speed than this plan
is great!

But if you are looking for heavy downloads and gaming and streaming
music and videos than this might not be the best plan for you. The
best plan we would recommend would be the 1 Mbps Unlimited plan at Rs.
2500 per month.

For any more details you can call the airtel toll free number 18001030121.

16mbps? Here? I’ll believe it when I actually download something at that speed. I’m sorry but dealing with quite a few ISPs have made me a cynic.

  2. avatar sidharth says:

Airtel usually sticks to their word. I am an airtel customer and i am happy. I usually get more than the speed i am supposed to get. Who is your service provider Binny?

  3. avatar Adheeth says:

I seriously hate the “CAP” part in unlimited plans!… what is the point in having a 16Mbps connection and with a 20GB download limit?

  4. avatar Tito says:

wats the actual speed ? reliance 3.1Mbps =1, airtel 16 = ?? .. never believe in the speeds they say..you will never ever get it..they say the maximum speed u can get..just ask them wats the minimum guaranteed speed..

  5. avatar Stan says:

    3.072 Mbps = 375KB (2^n) or 384KB (10^n) (actual speed)
    16.384 Mbps = 2000KB (2^n) or 2048KB (10^n) (actual speed)

    Mbps = megabits , MB = Megabytes
    Kb = kilobits , KB = Kilobytes

    2^n = base 2 system (binary)
    10^n = base 10 system (decimal)

    I uses BSNL EVDO Connection (PCMCIA), they offer 2.4 Mbps speed unlimited @ Rs550/- per month, so thats around 2048/8 = 256KBPS (actual speed), I’m getting around 150KB/s – 200KB/s (1.2Mb/s – 1.6Mb/s), i.e with this speed i can download around 100MB in 10-7mins.

note:- Main draw backs for this internet connection is – it is range dependent (weak range weak data transfer) and 2nd this connection has only static IP addresses (no more downloadings from rapdidshare.com kinda website).

But I really love this connection.

  6. avatar Madsaint says:

hey stan, could you please tell me how much you paid for the modem for the BSNL. I would like to take some broadband connection while am in kerala fr a month. What would be your opinion.

  7. avatar wintak solution says:

please kindly give me the details of AIRTEL KOCHI office for the INTERNET DEDICATED LEASED LINE for a newly opening call center.

    thanks
    wintak solution

  8. avatar ken says:

wats the point of having 16mbps with 20gb cap? 3000RS rental :O

A 2mbps connection needs atleast 20gb for surfers… there are great high quality websites out there

i rather opt for Bsnl 2mbps ,atleast it has night unlimited plans

Every network provider in india sucks….. and they dont even know the needs of us

  9. hi it is the most fast way for downloading things from the net u can download any thing from any site the fastest way using 16 Mbps.
    i cant believe the speed……………………………..
