AIESEC Kochi organized a painting competition on January 9th at Regional Sports Center for over 200 children from different NGO’s around Kochi. There where participants from special schools as well.The painting competition titled “Balakalakar” commenced at 11:00 am and lasted for about two hours, the participants were divided in three categories and were asked to paint what comes in their imagination. The children were given chart papers and watercolor, and crayons for those from special schools.

There were 16 volunteers from Delta Public school, the foreign interns who are here as part of Child Rights and Environment project along with AIESEC’ers facilitated the painting competition. Participation certificates were provided to all participants, there was a winner in each category. The Judges for the painting competition were Rani Damien and Preetha Babu; they handed over the first prize to each category. Category A which consisted on Children from 1st to 4th std was won by Master Arun from Snehabhavan, Palluruthy and Category B which consisted of Children from 5th to 8th was won by Miss Sathya of Valsalyabhavan, Vaduthala and Category C which consisted of Children from 9th to 12th std was won by Master Rahul Nair .

The best from the three categories, Master Rahul Nair from Snehanilayam Special School, Chembamukku, received a sum of Rs 5000/- towards his education from Romana Correya [Local Committee President] and Rittu Jacob [Vice President, Non-Corporate Sector].
Balakalakaar was followed by Global Village, where the interns from various countries exhibited the traditional products; the children showcased various culture activities from dance, songs to mimicry.To keep the children engaged, Amy, an intern who is part of Child Rights project from Australia showed them the dance steps and the children played along. AIESEC’ers performed Jives [Dance] used as stress busters in National Conferences of AIESEC.
There were stalls from Asadeepam Special School, Raksha Charitable Society, Snehanilayam Special School; they had products like paintings, crafts, candles, pen stand, lotions, key chains, artificial jewellary, flower vase, mobile pouch etc.
The event was part of Project “Footprints”, a child Rights Project of AIESEC in Kochi. The Project Head is Shinu B who is an Engineering student studying in KMEA Engineering College, Edathala
