Some say that CCL is all about minting money, and the rich just gets richer through this whole show. The team owners have said that a major chunk of the money goes for charity purpose. Some oppose the show, whereas some think this is a splendid form of entertainment when both cricket and cinema comes together. We spoke to a few of them, and here is what they think about Celebrity Cricket League.

Siddharth. V. Menon, a student from Kochi says that CCL is pre-set and a disgrace to the game of cricket. “They just want to market cricket with stars in it. I don’t see anything worthwhile or meaningful through CCL. Nothing close to the real game of cricket is prevalent in it”, said Siddharth. Well, that is one side of the coin. Arvind Kumar, a student of Toc-H Engineering College said that CCL is the ultimate form of entertainment. “I think CCL is fun. You get to see all your favorite stars together. And if it’s for charity, then why not?”, added this 20 year old.

Shameer Khan, who hails from Kochi has something to say. “If the money goes to charity and for helping the under-privileged of the film fraternity, I don’t see any harm in CCL”, said Shameer. Well, we have quite a few takes and opinions on this issue. You can voice yours too. What is your take on this Kochi?

This inter-collegiate football match will be held from Jan 16 to Jan 29 2012. There will also be a theme song for the football tournament which will be released in an event happening at Casino. They will feature the best 16 teams from 4 universities across the state. The tournament will be kicked off on Monday by Mr. Ajay Maken, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.

Two matches will be conducted everyday which will happen at 2. 45 p.m and 4. 30 p.m. The organizers aim at promoting football in campuses across the state. Unlike many other games, football has been facing a major setback everywhere including our campuses. Such initiatives will definitely facilitate young minds in knowing more about the game.

The event brought together kids who were keen on the game, and it was an opportunity for them to get to know things better. The event which was extremely successful was held on the 8^th of January 2012 at Kochi’s most sought after game spot ‘Boomerang Klub’. The tournament was organised by the Boomerang Klub in association with Team Sam Academy.

Samor K. Joseph defeated Tejas Ratnam (2-0) to take the Junior under 18 years title. The games were conducted well, and the spectators as well as contestants had a good time being part of it. Vinayakumar T.P., Manager of Boomerang Klub gave away the prizes to the winners. Kochi hopes to host more of such events and bring together young minds so that they can reap the best out of it. Authorities, are you listening??!

This tournament is definitely something big for Kochi, as our city has not hosted Hockey tournaments for the past seven years. The organizers and hockey enthusiasts in the city are all geared up to welcome this event with open-arms. There will be 14 districts participating from across the state. This will be happening at the Maharajas College Ground.

The District Hockey administration also plans to set up an artificial turf to make things better, so that matches can be held in a better way. If an artificial turf is made, that would be the first one in the state. As technical reasons can be a hitch in building the turf, we cannot be sure about it for now.

The works for bettering the ground is still on and spectators can expect some great matches here. If you are a hockey fan, make sure you don’t miss this!

But wait, Kochi IPL fans have some reasons to be happy about. Kochi might be the host to a few Indian Premier League matches for this season. Maybe we might not be cheering out loud for Kochi Tuskers this time, but you can clap your hands for your favourite stars from other teams. Kerala Cricket Association has requested the BCCI for the same, and now we need to wait and watch what BCCI concludes regarding this.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which was the host for last year’s IPL matches, was renovated paying quite a fortune to raise it to international standards. The organizers are now having quite a tough time. Now, the stadium is being the venue for matches like the Ranji Trophy, but the organizers are not benefitted through these matches.

Maybe bringing down a few matches down to Kochi will be commercially benefitting the organizers, and also provide entertainment to Kochi cricket fans as well. Let us see what is in store!!

Kerala Strikers will play in five matches of CCL in January 2012.

Being coached by Pankaj Chandrasesnan Nair and team managed by Edavela Babu, Kerala Strikers will showcase the best talents in Malayalam cinema. The team consists of 20 players, in which 14 of them will be in the main squad. The team comprises of Vinu Mohan, Kunchako Boban, Prithviraj, Asif Ali, Nivin Pauly, Saiju Kurup, Manikuttan, Munna, Prajod Kalabhavan, Rajiv Govinda Pillai and other stars from the industry.

Kochi IPL fans had already got a shock when the location for Kochi matches was switched over from Kochi to Ahmedabad (from next season onwards). Now, even though the concerned officials from Kochi Tusker’s Kerala have denied the fact that they do not owe money to the BCCI, the control has been lost from them anyways.

Well, Kochi Tusker’s Kerala was always in the news for the wrong reasons. From naming the team, ownership deals and more, the team has had a tough time ever since the beginning. Don’t you remember how Shashi Tharoor had to resign his ministerial post, all because he ‘supposedly’ had a share in the Kochi IPL team? So now, let’s see how the story furthers. Or is this the end to Kochi Tusker’s Kerala, a team which was much awaited and anticipated? Or is it just another setback drama which fans are forced to watch?
