Food-Where Heaven and Earth rendezvous contd

Kashi Art café

Coffee and cake

Coffee and cake

Kashi Art Café deserves a spot in my list, not because of its serene ambience and excellent music or the art that is showcased, the menu is very meager considering the fact that we are centering on food in this article. But Kashi beats most ‘Coffee-shops’ in terms of the coffee they have by miles. They have the best coffee that I have tasted anywhere and it’s a common consensus that people concur with me. The French pressed coffee comes in the press with milk and sugar separately provided for us to mix according to our taste. Their Lemon Iced Teas and Cold Coffee’s are to be savored with their chicken sandwiches. The icing on top of the cake and we are talking about the cake here literally, is their home-made Chocolate cakes doused with their chocolate sauce. Nothing beats having these and just relaxing to music.
Kashi offers what many café’s can’t seem to provide, the best coffee served in the idyllic location of fort Kochi. It is located in Burgher Street near the Delta public School in Fort Kochi.

Dal Roti

Dal Roti

Dal Roti

Providing a glimpse into the dishes from the plains of North India, Dal Roti is located in Lily Street, Fort Kochi. With a typical North Indian menu, it provides wide variety of Parathas and Rotis served with delicious curries of non-vegetarian and vegetarian delights. You can either go for individual meals or also opt for thali meals. Tandoori Dishes are available only after 6 or so in the evening as the time will give the Kebab’s to marinade in their sauces. One of the notable aspects of Dal Roti is the proprietor Mr Ramesh Menon, who warmly greets everyone and leads them to their table with a wide smile on his face. Service is the name of the game and he plays it very well.
Dal Roti has Spartan interiors but it goes well with the feel of the restaurant. Slip in to snack on one of their Kathi Rolls or Mugalai Paratha’s or go for heavier fares such as the Awadhi Samosa Paratha, a humongous Indian-pizza is you can say it so. Dal Roti is one of the very few places where you feel that it is money well spent. Value for money is what I would say and of course more correctly excellent food.

Jeff Food’s

Zoyeb Ebrahim’s Jeff Food’s formerly known as Cochin Food’s, provides athentic Bohra Muslim food. It makes my list because of its profound impact on my taste buds the first time I went there and ever since. Mr Ebrahim has catered to Bollywood’s hotshots like Pooja Bhatt and Salman Khan, he had returned back to Kochi recently after a successful stint at running his Catering business in Mumbai. They mainly focus on doing catering and take-out so their provisions to eat at their establishment is very humble. But never, I say never let that dissuade yourself from trying out their food. They have some very delicious Lamb Kebabs, Spicy Chicken curries with distinct taste of aromatic spices and to have with these you have simple Chappathi’s (not the dry types you get in most hotels but the nice soft ones you usually get at home). Even the salads that accompany the main dishes, taste’s great. Their specialty is the Tandoor stuffed Bakra, which is marinated lamb placed over a huge heap of delicious Biriyani. Thumbs up on very affordable and excellent food!

The Grand Hotel
The Grand Hotel is one of the three star hotels that are situated in the heart of Kochi. It has an old age feel to it, giving you a reminiscing mood while entering it. Located near Woodland’s the Maharaja’s College ground on MG Road, it is one of this city’s oldest Hotels. Grand is exclusively known for its ‘Karimeen Pollichathu’, but it has other impressive dishes too. The Grand has very varied A La Carte menu with dishes that ranges from Continental, North Indian and Chinese to Kerala food. It is an all-in-all place to go have a meal with your family or someplace to take special ones for a nice meal.
Location

Deshadan Plaza
Here is the clincher for this joint, “Platter”…Tandoori Platter, Mixed Seafood Platter, Continental Platter. Picture a plate full of beautiful grilled food, now picture yourself digging your teeth into them, pure bliss. This place has some really good dishes and the best part is that they have kept their menu relatively simple. You get the regular fare you get but even their beef “ullathu” is lip smacking good! Their poratta’s fresh and steamy are just the right stuff. A nice ambiance tops off everything, be it with family of friends or even by your own, Deshadan can be a very pleasant and satisfying experience.
It is located at Panampilly Nagar near the Passport Office.

Deli
Deli, the Patisserie located at The Gateway Hotel has some of the best baked savories and delights in Kochi. It has a nice array of tarts, cakes, choco-based puddings and such, meat savories, breads and many many more. They also have some choice flavors of ice creams.
Now talking about their goods, they have some of the best Lemon Tart and Chocolate Puddings ever, ever being the fact that they are indeed a delight for any sweet tooth. If you are out from a nice dinner and want a quiet place to catch dessert, head to Deli, they are never bound to disappoint you.
Deli is located adjoining to The Gateway Hotel.

Coffee Beanz

Pastries at Coffee Beanz

Pastries at Coffee Beanz

A laid-back café set across the Marine Drive at menaka, Coffee Beanz offers long list of Coffee drinks, hot and cold and much more. Surprisingly the Café is more known for its Appam and Stew rather than its Coffee delights. These white puffy Indian cakes are deliciously hot and crisp, accompanied by chicken or vegetable stew. Suitable for breakfasts, it can be consumed with the same gusto at any hour of the day. Check out their steak burgers, which is a relief from all the patty based burgers we otherwise get from anywhere else. Pies and sandwiches modestly priced adorn the menu, which also has chicken and beef steaks that is surprising for a Coffee Café.

Catch up with friends over a nice meal and enjoy the whole comfy experience. Breakfast, lunch or dinner Coffee Beanz has it all.
