Gods own metro, Kochi is already tired of the poor garbage disposal system. And now to make things worse the Andhra Pradesh Technical Development Corporation (APTDC) who is running the Brahmapuram plant has advised that they will stop garbage processing services on May 16th. Once the plant which is Kochi’s only answer to garbage problem stops operation Kochi will be given a taste of its medicine. And with the monsoons too around the corner Kochi city will soon be in for a dirty time.
APTDC has maintained that they have not received payments for processing Kochi’s garbage for past 9 months amounting to Rs. 1.5 cr. They also pointed out that Kochi corporation has not taken any steps to take over the plant as promised. Kochi Corporation was supposed to take over all operations by May 2009 as per the contract.
Kochi Corporation in their defense said that they are initiating legal action against APTDC for not running the plant as per terms. They accused APTDC of not imparting training for the Kochi Corporation staff in the plant operation.
As the mud slinging continues the fate of the residents of Cochi city looks grim. Lets just hope that something is done in time to keep God’s Own Metro clean.
