Popular social networking website Facebook is being invaded by mysterious color related status messages!

If you are a facebook user, you are bound have noticed the mysterious one-liner color status messages girls (and some men) have put up. It took us sometime and we at Kochivibe were flabbergasted, yes flabbergasted, that is how much surprised we were with the real answer to the messages. It’s the color of the bra the women who post it are wearing. Yes, you read it right, the red, blue, white, blacks you see in facebook are actually the bra colors of your colleagues, friends, etc. Now don’t start blushing, getting disgusted or anything as the reason behind tirade of such status messages is the spread of Breast Cancer awareness.
A blog from Detroit has reported the credit of the bra-color status message awareness campaign’s origin to women in Detroit who are trying to raise awareness around Breast Cancer. There has been other blogs with support this, although the origin still unclear, the cause behind it is the same worldwide. This is one of the comments seen in a blog “Some fun is going on…. just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of breast cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before people wonder why all the girls have a color in their status… Haha .”
The basic idea with the awareness campaign is not just the fun for the girls to post around the different colors but while they check up inside their top’s for the color of their bra to post as their status message, they can also go ahead and feel up around there for any lumps. So if you feel any, go have it checked with a doctor immediately! Its a novel idea as facebook is a huge forum where the world can communicate with each other and the whole thing puts the issue in a girl’s head. Hence awareness is raised, atleast get the whole idea of the issue on the plate and I would bet that even guys would be getting aware of this fact and letting their dear ones know. Well the whole idea is for such a spreading of awareness in a tidal wave fashion.
I have certain idea’s for future campaigns, color of boxers for prostrate cancer? Guys?
So now that more people may be aware, girls get a move on and start posting those colors! While guys can be more supportive and not be jerks. And even if you don’t use facebook its never embarrassing to tell someone about this. Lets get a move on Kochi!

Maybe wearing a bra accounts for the higher number of breast cancer cases in this generation? The exact cause of breast cancer is unknown. All of us know that there has been an unnatural increase in breast cancer patients in the past one or two centuries. This eerily coincides with a generational shift from corsets and no-bras to bras, which can be attributed to the 2 world wars (increased mobility requirement and all that). I call for the arrival of a bra-free generation of females worldwide inorder to reduce the chances of our sisters(:P) gettin breast cancer. I so totally despise this disease. More than AIDS.
its quite sad..women and so called moden-women doesnt know where to draw lines.. telling the whole world the colour of their inner wear is NOT an awareness campaign..i was offended thrice because of this..first,to see my friend’s mom’s update on the colour..and then ppl commenting and discussing on it..i respected her as my mom kinds..pathetic!and Second, another friend’s sis..who was more like sis to me, i have seen her grow from chidlhood..now i know what she is wearing??? nonsense!!and thirdly, when my friends were discussing on a girl(who is very close to me), her colour update! i was hurt! the next time i see any girl who did posted their colour now, all i will be wondering,’ is she wearing the same colour today’??
LOL! i know girls wouldnt mind reading their dad’s or uncle’s or brother’s underwear colour for the next.. but we guys are protective and possessive about our relations and their personal belongings..i too have posted on fb long time back an ad-campaign on the ‘PINK’ awareness..but this is defntly not the way u do it! VALUES, Self-respect! cheers!
Duh.!! What has self respect to do with color of what u are wearing..?? We are part of a modern society ( or at least a society thats trying to be modern ).. I dont understand why sum1 shud be bothered when a frnd, or a frnds mom or a frnds sis puts up a status message abt the color of her bra ..
@BrijuKB
progression is what we want…Right now you are the person demeaning women by seeing things in a negative manner…” i know girls wouldnt mind reading their dad’s or uncle’s or brother’s underwear colour for the next.” how can you justify this statement? If your argument is valid then men’s innerwear should be a touchy matter…women all over the world are posting the color of their bra…there is no physical aspect involved..it’s like the color of what you wear…awareness doesn’t come if there is no openness…try to accept changes and new ideas, think out of the box…
I applaud women for having taken this sort of a campaign..:)
@Bimal Paul: “Duh.!!”.. LOL! Ok mate, am quite impressed by ur term ‘modern society’. Anyways, since am running short of time, lets make just make some points and move on..No matter how much modern you get, we mallus and especially, men are the same deep inside.. and the guys would get offended if his mom/or sis or wife’s colour of bra/panty is spread by themselves to the entire World.
Mr Bimal, and Matt, How would you feel if,..please dont get defensive on this, but how would YOU feel if your mom posts her bra’s colour on facebook tommorrow? and ur own friends (who are on her list too) post comments on it calling it ‘sexy’..’woww’,”i dont beleive it unless i see it” and so on?? C’monn..be honest.. and still you are fine with it? hats-off to u mate! u r a very modern guy! ROFL!those are personal belongings. The lingeries are personal stuffs..keep it that way.. value those!..and not by someone asking you to do it, but by urselves!
@Matt: Why women dont mind reading men’s underwear’s colour is Men and women psycology. I think you are too young, else you wouldnt have made that statement.
‘Thinking out of the box’ doesnt mean you justify anything and everything what others do! ‘YOU’ think out of the box..and not go with the flow.. develop abilities to understand what is right and wrong. Understand values in human lives..
Guys,More than three-fourth of my life i have stayed outside Kerala..have travelled quite a lot too..and I am presently at UK..I have seen modern world and ‘thinking out of the box’ at a larger picture. dont give me those ‘gyaan’ mate!! And I have realized so far, no matter what, cling on to those culture-values and self respect.. that is what which will make u stand apart and beleive in urself at the toughest times, esp when you look at urself and ur lives!!..or you will just end up with a fcked up life..
And Bimal and Matt to think about: FYI, there is Uterus related cancers too..and majority of women suffers it..they have uterus removed then..its wuite common! dont know its name though.. next time if some cracked up girls, start spreading their panty’s colour, i wonder if you would ask your mom and sis/wife to post their panty’s colour on facebook as well.. are u still to accept it and allow her post for the entire world to see??.. Wowww!! swueeeet!
am sorry, if am being too rude and hurt u guys emotions..its 5:30 am here, and i havent slept a bit..just wanted to do a quick post this.. dont have time to put things in a diplomatic way..neither have time to proof read it..so kindly excuse, grammatical errors and typo..
cheers guys.. u guys made me think if I am wrong..i appreciate it.. Over here, We had few sessions on this topic, and everyone including Brits accepted and voted for our points as stated above..its you young mallus, who are still trying to go ith the flow.. Dont give off your culture and family-relation-values and self-respect! Modern World and society is defntly not that!
Bye, ATB!
i do agree with u Briju …n i dnt think jus by updatin one’s colour as status message can lessen the increasin no of cancer patients…its all jus a matter of taking gud care of oneself..
I really find it funny when custodians of our “culture” come out with their guns blazing whenever it comes to stuff related to women. If putting their bra color piqued peoples interest and helped in spreading awareness about a campaign on breast cancer – which affects 1 out of 200 women, then so be it. The question here should be, if doing this slacker activism really helps spread awareness or is it just a gimmick?
Not whether “women” should put their bra color as status msgs.
@BrijuKB Being living out of kerala doesn’t make you the more modern person, now that is being a little ambitious and presumptuous of you, isn’t it? and dude ‘We Mallu’s’ ? Why do u assume us to be in the same social strata as you are? Call us enlightened Malayali’s….
@Neena the whole concept never mentions anything in relation to lessen cancer patients, just to get people to look back and think about the whole thing….its mentioned in this post what they really meant and the status messages go along with the whole thing….
Anyways seeing a polar set of comments on this whole thing I feel that the world sure does need a whole lot more of healing to do…
Cheers from Kochivibe!
Well, modern or not, I think its a complete absurd way of spreading awareness to a disease.
@Matt – Its not the physical aspect thats the issue here. Its the sick idea of spreading something that is completely un-necessary and private. I am sure if you walk around the city asking a lady’s bra’s color, she would slap you for all you know. Education should have civilised you, looks like its pulling you down into the dirt pit.
@Sneha – Well, how about the campaign that HIV infected people are safe for sex if proper safe sex measures are taken, like wearing condom. Would you go ahead and have sex with an HIV infected guy so that the campaign for awareness is well out and running?
Lets get real.. Awareness is important. Spreading the news is really important. No questions asked. But there are more civilized ways to spread the message, not by spreading the color of all the women’s Bra or Undies.
This is a very important post, I was looking for this knowledge. Just so you know I located your blog page when I was researching for blogs like mine, so please check out my site sometime and leave me a comment to let me know what you think.
