Priyadarshan and Mohanlal plan to start a cricket team from Kerala for the next IPL season, to be titled as ‘City Cricketers’. They also have roped in Shashi Tharoor, the new Union Minister of State for External Affairs, as the chairman of their team and have the full support of the KCA. The Director of the City Cricketers will be Robin Singh.
They will approach the BCCI with the proposal and if they get the approval, their team will debut in the next IPL in 2010.
This would give an opportunity for the Kerala Cricketers with a global opportunity to make their way into the national side. More details are awaited.

Best of luck for our first IPL Team. Hope this will improve the perfomance of cricket in Kerala. May be some more cricketers from kerala will get a chance to show their ability and will get a call from Indian team.

The best name will be some thing like Cochin “God’s own” or Cochin “Queens” (since Kochi is the Queen of Arabian See)(Also, it will be the only queens against many kings and royals) . I love to see a Kerala IPL team

IPL teams are to be bought on an auction. And as per the media release from BCCI, they do not have a team from Kerala or Kochi planned to be auctioned for season 3, i.e. 2010. I don’t understand the hue and cry people are making here for something that is just a media speculation. My dear fellow malayalees, please grow up and show that high litracy rate tag which we boast about is not just an accident.

some person named ‘UK’ said IPL name will be given to a city and not state….haha u called trivandrum a real city….100% damn sure that Trivandrum don’t have chance…Even tvm in not in list of 12 cities which r authorised to bid for 2011 IPL. Kochi is from Kerala….hehehe…who knws abt tvm…go to north india man…all knows Kochi as big city..tvm is just a typo old sleepy meagre town with no actual activity…(to spent some good peaceful time tvm is nice, but not for long term…). It doesn’t even have a stadium.

hi all, let’s don’t fight, the name should not contain kochi or tvm or malabar. Better try a good name with kerala. I think it is better to conduct an online or sms competition to suggest gud name for our first IPL team. What do u say dear friends????

The name is said to Kerala Tusker or Kerala Cobra. The IPL will be fully based at Kochi. It will be a good chance to showcase Kochi…
