Who hasn’t seen the new Kerala Tourism Advert, if not check it below. Titled “Your Moment is Waiting“. it is a visual extravaganza, well choreographed, beautiful colors, haunting music, but is it ‘Ente Keralam’???
I stand firm with people who say, overdoing cliches can be a damper, but for some things its the cliches that goes. But that is just my take on things, I love the fascinating things about Kerala. Its flora and fauna, its vast diversity and rich heritage.
So I been asking people and checking the various comments on youtube about the video and most of them are swinging in the general direction of the video being, not so great. Well that’s like the rest of the world, lets hear from you guys what you think about the video promoting our dear Keralam?
So go ahead post your views, but keep profanities at the lowest.
thanks.

ya,,but i think,,they cud’ve done it bettr,, esp with th choice of gal,,
Not sure if i like it whn i thnk of it as a promo vdo to lure tourist..!!!
It does works on the ‘mystery’ element..
For sure they are trying to connect with somthn deeper than the normal promo vdos..
But has to wait n watch hw much it wud inspire ppl to travel to kerala..
for sure has got some amazing shots tat luks surreal but is for real..!!
here is my take on the AD
total misrepresentation of kerala… am i being harsh, i think not, simply that stating that they got the feel , the colour the texture the music worng oh and even the girl(the nt mal looking, nor a touristy looking model )…..
kerala is all abot the vibrant colours. even at during summer…. w are green !! and happy and vibrant . )
now lets discuss music…hmmm…..it sounds distinctly African… i think… definitly not anything i have heard in kerala….
technically, very sound.. i agreee…. unfortunately i think they got the country wrong.. forget even the state !!
Initially the Ad seemed odd and out of context to me. but then i realized something, basically this was launched in London a few days ago and i figure it was tailor made for such an audience. The idea would be to gain attention there. We have our own sentiments and references when it comes to Kerala – the sights, the smells and sounds of it. Portraying that to people who haven’t been here might not strike an immediate connect. So i guess such an approach might work at this point of time by creating a sense of mystery and trying to lure and fascinate by what is awaiting them here. The campaign launched says just that “your moment is waiting” tthare not trying to show you exactly what you are going to see here which would be besides the point. it might make a person who is totally unaware of Kerala want to come here and the experiences they gain here will be much more than what the advertisement has shown
this is just a teaser of sorts.
Intsted of making a new ad .They could have use that old ad “Expressions” and the money spend for this ad could have use for giving more advertisments time in CNN and other media.
FIRENDS JUST A DIRECT FLIGHT FROM ANY OF THE EUROPEAN CITY TO COHIN ONLY REQIÚIRED TO ATTRACT TURISTS( NO ONE IS INTRESED TO TRAVEL 17 TO 22 HRS TO see “GODS OWN COUNTRY”
Those who criticize the videos, are the ones who just visualizes the beauty of Kerala. But this video depicts the fact that Kerala has more to offer than visual ecstasy. You will recognize the elegance and what God’s Own Country really means, when you EXPERIENCE Kerala. You will find yourself and the inner meaning of you being, if you really feel the real beauty of Kerala.

i beg to differ, being in direct contact with an elephant, enjoying ayurveda, watching a really *scary* scene of ritual, etc isnt going to help everyone feel the real beauty of kerala either….but to really experience kerala, i am afraid they will just have to come here and find out on their own….
p.s fix the roads first, otherwise they tourists will have something else waiting for them!!
it does not look too much like kerala right…? there is a reason why. it is copied straight from a series of ads my mexico tourism….pls see

wow jan the second link you posted just blew me away! and it does looks so very similar to the kerala advert! =/
and you know what the ones you posted are so wonderfully done and it does associate with mexico….
again! thats because you haven’t been there! and the music is not Mexican at all!
this is a perfect example of how this type of Ads are perceived elsewhere!
The choice of music is similar to what we have heard in the Kerala Tourism Ad as well and this is because it gives a sense of emotion and its kinda deep! a lot of noise is being made about this ad. maybe one should ask someone who hasn’t been to Kerala and ask them what they feel when they see it
I couldnt connect with the video. I didnt feel like watching a video on Kerala. It looks more african than keralite…
The ad had not included every beautyful things in kerala but also the fact is that, the ad may drive in more european tourists as they have curiosity for such things which the ad depicts, else what is the need of adding thumbitullal and theyyam in such an aweful manner.
The ad is not about Kerala. I read up what the Director of something had to say about ‘his film’, but this is allegedly a promo video for Kerala. Not about his feelings, or his heart.
Connecting this film to Kerala is stretching one’s imagination. The music, the visuals, the backgrounds all seem alien – plugging the state to tourists based on this movie is equivalent to commercial fraud as it seeks to sell what isnt here.
One may argue that the staple tourist stuff Kerala is famous for doesnt need vending – everyone knows the trees, the backwaters, etc. In which case, why bother making a film at all? Is the budget allocated to help the state find tourists or is it for people to explore their creative sides? Ideally the two aims should converge, because god knows that the state NEEDS tourism unlike any other in India – it is the only “industry” left (pun intended) in this state.
Lets put it this way – if people from a place find a promo video alien, what do you expect of those that havent been there. If I didnt know Kerala, I’d probably end up at CIAL or Trivandrum or Karippur expecting to see empty vistas as far as the eye can see. Which is exactly what this state isnt about.
No doubt the makers and the guys who patronised this project will have a lot of justification for what they’ve done. What is required is not a justification of their artistic talent, but a justification of their effort to promote this state. They are our marketing arm, and they have failed. Tourism is a revenue generator, not a pastime to let people explore their creative side.
Looks like a great video. To download check the below link

quick comments, being a Keralite and knowing what Kerala is:
1. The only shots that may interest a tourist (international)is of the elephant and the gal. Domestic tourists are too scared to go near an elephant.
2. It is more like an art film. Who is the Director? Certainly can’t be a Malayali.
3. The boy fishing in the lake (Thekkady I believe) looks like a skeleton.
4. All the shots are dark gloomy in shade, no vibrant colours, no life in any of the shots.
5. The music is absolutely pathetic .. it is Soofi music .. which suits the desert lands and not the mystic land of Kerala.
I would rate the ad as “very poor” giving a score of 2 out of 10.
They couldve made it much MUCH better! Honestly, I think dis has got nothing to do with the culture (or anything for that matter) of Kerala. The lady luks absolutely disheartening (They would’ve got people much better). The music is not even Indian (forget Kerala!!). The shades and tones used have not portrayed Kerala at her best. I agree to Rose when she said that ‘We are all about Colors’. I wonder why such creative geniuses end up making such c**p!
Jan got it right!
