In a bid to sensitise the coastal population and the fishing community to mechanisms available for distress alert and to the means of reporting suspicious activities at sea to agencies involved in coastal security, the Coast Guard District Headquarters No.4 at Fort Kochi is holding a motorcycle rally along the coast between Fort Kochi and Poovar at the southern tip of the State from Friday to Monday. The rally, with 20 participants from the Coast Guard, Navy and the State police, will be flagged off at the Coast Guard Headquarters on Friday morning.
During the rally, the team will distribute among the fishing community pamphlets describing the means to get in touch with coastal security organisations during an emergency. They will also be informed of the security of the single-point mooring of BPCL, Kochi refinery, off the Vypin Island.
The rally, covering over 25 coastal villages, will return to Fort Kochi on the Coast Guard Day on Monday. The participants of the rally will interact with the local administration at various places and visit coastal police stations for exchange of information. Local bodies, the police and the Coast Guard station at Vizhinjam will provide necessary support to the team.
