DJ Vishnu, an example of some super talent to come from Kochi is coming to town this weekend. DJ Vishnu has been in the industry for the last 13 years, rockin the pubs, lounges & clubs in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai etc. His sounds are mainly Hip Hop/ RnB, House [Funky / Latin / Proggy/ Electro/Tech].

Started of his career in Cochin but moved to Mumbai & worked with, renowned Dj Suketu for a year.. Then struck it on his own @ Clubs like J49 [Juhu], Scottish Arms [Mahim], Onyx [Pali Hill], Rasna Bar [Church Gate] and also doing a whole lot of corporate & Bollywood parties. After rocking Mumbai city for 5 full years he moved to Bangalore city and played in some of the hot spots in Bangalore like Latitude, Opium, Club X, Sparks, Cosmo Village. Finally settled down at Taika and kosmo as the resident DJ and still rocks even after 5 strong years there!

Tenishia is one party you wouldn’t want to miss! Kochi will be hosting this event on the 2nd of February 2013 at Hotel Dream, Convention Center. Opening set will be played by DJ’s Lester Oliver and Tominen. You will also have Kochi’s favorite DJ’s Sekhar, Nash and Ryan spinning some awesome music!

Tenzi FM is celebrating their first anniversary, and they have a huge treat for Kochi! Internationally renowned DJ Ben Coda will be spinning music for Kochi on the 2nd of December 2012! You will also have ‘Merchants of Groove’, DJ Sekhar and DJ Nash adding to the sparkle and fun for the evening. Chemical Funk and DJ Anoop will also be playing at Ben Coda! We hear you were part of a rock band. How did the switch to DJing happen?

I have always wanted to be part of music,in whichever possible way. When the band was dismembered due to financial inadequacy, I started playing in a small bar in Mysore, which started my DJ’ng career.

What would you like to get known as a commercial DJ or an underground DJ?

  What do you think? I’m certainly not a commercial DJ. But I necessarily don’t like to be branded or categorized as an underground DJ or any other kinds. My purpose is to bring/educate new sounds  for the clubbing community.

You play Dubstep, Drum & Bass and Electro. How do you manage to entertain your crowd with such noisy genres?

NOISY!?? OK, this is how it works. I play music for seasoned clubbers. The kind of music I play is not for clubbing novices. Normally people who come for my gigs have done their share of clubbing and are looking for newer/fresher/progressed sounds, from me. So it works perfectly well for us. Of course for new comers to the partying circuit might find my sounds “NOISY” lol.

Now a days almost all DJs use CDJs, traktors and Sync buttons. Tell us why you still work with vinyls?

I’ve been using vinyl from the time I learnt how to DJ. For one, i am really comfortable using decks compared to any other machines and indeed there is a lot more focus and concentration involved when playing on turntables. That way it keeps me glued and involved to what I do while I play.

Now let’s get personal. What is your favorite genre? Is it what you play or do you have another favorite?

The fact is that, I don’t listen to music I play at clubs when i am not playing. I listen to various genres, rock being my favorite.  My all time fav bands are RUSH,AC/DC,RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE,to name a few.

What do you think about the EDM scene in India? And how will you predict the future of the scene?

EDM scene in India is in desperate need of a make over. I hear too many familiar sounds everywhere I go. I don’t see many daring to try and bring fresh sounds to the table.

Tell us about a weird experience from one of your gigs.

One time I was called to play for a gig in Goa at this bar called Margarita. I was booed off the console within two tunes into my set. hahahaha

Now let’s talk about Kochi. I think this is your second time in Kochi. How was your last experience here?

I love Kochi crowd!! They are open to irregular sounds. They are willing to explore. That is indeed refreshing for DJ’s to experience.

And when can we expect to listen to Vachan’s originals?

I am currently in process of forming a band in the next yr or so. We intend to play some hard electro rock kinda sounds. As i said it is still in process.

In the interview with Tenzi.fm you said if you are given 100 like minded people who lets you play what you want to play and a great sound system you would play for free. Did you really mean it?

Yeah sure! I’d do it for my friends.

What would your advice be to an upcoming DJ from Kochi?

Think out of the box. Get out of your comfort zone.
