For some, DJ’ing has been a passion which has taken them to levels extraordinarily high. From names that were known in their own cities, they have shot to national fame. We present before you DJ VISHNU, a DJ who Kochi knows well. Music-lovers and party-goers would know him, because he has treated you all with his share of lovely mixes! Vishnu is happily married, and was blessed with a baby boy recently. Settled in Bangalore, this young man has reasons umpteen to come to Kochi. His love for the city has made him give us the best of his music.
Vishnu, who was born in United States, did his education from various locales in India. With schooling from Corpus Christi and UG from a leading college in Bangalore, it did not take Vishnu much time to realize that his true passion was music. “I used to play at private parties initially. I hardly used to get 500 bucks when I played those days. Later, I took my DJ classes from Suketu for three months, and used to work with him for a while”, said Vishnu. And he says that the amount of party- goers and music-lovers in Kochi have increased at a drastic rate in the past few years. “Kochi has picked up, and it has the potential to grow more. We need to get bigger numbers here, but I guess it will take its own time. So let it be!”, adds Vishnu.
Having played in the biggest and most sought after clubs across the nation, DJ Vishnu has proved that his music is a class apart. His ‘commercial mixes’ have given him a reasonably good amount of fans across India. Vishnu says that Kochi party-goers have whole-heartedly welcomed his music, with open-arms. “Whenever I’ve played here, I’ve noticed that the people here are ready to accept variety. Go to Chennai, and you can hear Tamil songs being played in their clubs. But here, we don’t hear Malayalam songs being played. Hat’s off to the DJ’s here who, I would say, deserves all the appreciation for that”, says Vishnu with a smile. This young man has no doubt to the fact that Kochi DJ’s are doing a good job. But he also added that the standard of DJ’s and DJ’ing in a whole should be maintained always.
According to Vishnu, Kochi is quite in par with cities like Goa and Bangalore when it comes to the quality of music-lovers and party-goers. “You have thousand Bollywood DJ’s across India who plays all the major hits. When I used to play ‘House’ in Mumbai, people used to spit at you because ‘Bollywood’ appeals to them more. Kochi scene is absolutely different. And I think, Kochi is all set to be a major party hub”, added Vishnu. “Who knows, you can expect ‘Sunburn’ in Kochi soon. Kochi is capable of it”, says Vishnu with a wink.
The trend where DJ’s turn into music producers, has not really affected Vishnu. “I plan to concentrate on DJ’ing now. Not planning to produce anything soon”, says Vishnu. So who are his favourite DJ’s? “Arjun Vagale is good. He played awesome at ‘Supernova’, and I was impressed. I love Nikhil Chinnappa, Ivin, Tuhin Mehta, and Sanjay Dutta”.
