The famous film playback singer will be performing in Kochi next month. Shilpa Rao has sung some awesome songs in Hindi which have turned out to be huge hits topping music charts across the country.
From ‘Khuda Jaane’ to ‘Mudi Mudi’, ‘Jazda’ and ‘Tose Naina Laga’, her songs have made it big in the box office. Shipa is the owner of a beautiful voice that mesmerizes. Maybe those ancient art-forms of Kerala, the ones that determines Malayali culture globally, including Kathakali and Mohiniyattam is merely confined to entertain foreigners and meant for youth festivals! But here is something Kochiites, those who haven’t yet witnessed the authentic art-form Koodiyattam can check out! A Koodiyattam show will be hosted by artist Kapila Venu at JT Pac.
Koodiyattam, which means combined acting, is presented in the theatres in Kerala mostly. They use authentic instruments for the play, along with artists who have mastered in the field. So here is your chance to witness the same.

JT Pac will be hosting a play ‘Two to Tango Three to Jive’, under Ashvin Gidwani Productions. This is today, India’s one of the most popular theater production houses. This English drama talks about extra-marital affairs and the incidents associated to it. Renowned theater artist Saurabh Shukla is returning back on-stage after a long gap of 18 years, and he will be playing the leading protagonist in the play.
The story begins when Parminder Singh (played by Saurabh) tries to have an extra-marital affair or rather a fling in spite of being married to another woman. The complications, fun associated to it, is shown neatly in the play.

More than 400 students taking part in a play, with the support of 100 student’s back-stage! How does that look like? One really splendid show, isn’t it? And that is just what one can witness at the Musical Adaptation of Lion King, a show that will be hosted by JT Pac along with Choice School.
The show will be directed by Silly Point Productions from Mumbai. Managed and organized by these 500 students themselves, they will have superstar Mohanlal mentoring and grooming them for their on-stage performance. A huge array of colorful props and lovely costumes will add charm to the evening. There will also be a live repertoire by the students. Famous musician Joe Peter will be training the group of singers who are participating in the play.

JT Pac presents ‘Tholpavakoothu’ , an authentic Kerala art form of puppetry. This event will be staged at JT Pac on the 24th of January 2013. It will be hosted by K Viswanatha Pulavar and Vipin Viswanatha Pulavar. Tholpavakoothu is a form of shadow puppetry, and is mostly seen performed in the rural sides of Kerala. The artists use leather puppets and this ritual is dedicated to Bhadrakali. It is mostly performed in the temples of Kerala.
Believed to have originated in the ninth century A.D, the artists mostly use Malayalam and Tamil in order to convey the ideas. Tholpavakoothu will be brought back to life at JT Pac!

This weekend indulge in some hearty laughs by watching ‘Bade Lacche Lagte Ho’. This Gujarati play will be staged at JT Pac, Thripunithura. The story revolves around a Gujarati family where all the members are cunning. Hence, the drama and fun involved in the play is sure to make you have a good laugh! The members of the family have a tough time dealing with each other, and this play is filled with a handful of good and funny dialogues too.
The play is written by Nimesh Shah and directed by Jaideep Shah. This two hour play will be staged on the 13th of January at JT Pac. It begins at 7.00 p.m.

JT Pac is gearing up with a unique performance for Kochi this month. ‘Poems Embodied’ is a performance where the dance work will be based on an assortment of poems, which will be performed by the dancer. This is a contemporary dance form and one-of-its-kind. This performance is done by ‘Aangik’. These English poems will speak about themes like love and relationships, women, courage and more.
From the artists body language to the poems used to portray them, the audience can indulge in a visual experience that embodies art at its best. The classic poems that are used in the performance are internationally acclaimed and popular. This event is done together by Mudra and Aangik.
The event will be held at JT Pac, Thripunithura on the 11th of January 2013. The show begins at 7. 30 p.m.

JT Pac will be staging the play ‘Where did I leave my Purdah’. This English play is from Primetime Theatre Company. A comedy drama that also has a tinge of romance, grief and sorrow added to it, the play is set during the 1950’s and 80’s.
The play revolves around the life of an actress, her relationships, professional life and more. You can witness India, just after partition, brought beautifully on stage. The world of cinema is shown perfectly. The story eventually comes to the present, back to the contemporary world of cinema as well.
‘Where did I leave my Purdah’ is directed by Lillette Dubey and written by Mahesh Dattani. The cast includes Lilette Dubey, Neha Dubey, Soni Razdan, Sid Makkar and Priyanka Karunakaran in the lead roles.
The play will be staged on the 5th of January 2013 at 7.30 p.m at JT Pac Thripunithura.

The director of the famous play ‘Class of 84’ has written and directed this play too. The story revolves around characters in Mumbai, and the city also is a pivotal character in the play.
The leading protagonists in the play, struggle to fit in hard with the changing social, economic and cultural sides of the city. The play is something you would want to watch, as it picks on various societal matters as well.
The play stars Rajit Kapur, Neil Bhoopalam, Amit Mistry in the leading roles.

Listen to some mind-blowing Sitar tunes this Friday. T. Radhakrishna, the Sitar maestro, will be performing at JT Pac on the 9th of June 2012. The show will begin at 7.00 p.m. Radhakrishna, who has showcased his talents at umpteen national events, was trained from Pt. Ravi Shankar’s School of Sitar.
He was also trained by Sitar expert Pt. Ramarao from the age of 14. His love towards music and Sitar has borne wings from then on. Radhakrishna has been conducting Sitar classes, and his music is appreciated and applauded across the nation.
