The Central and State governments (with support of the United Nations Children’s Fund) is organizing a national-level workshop on decentralization and equity for children. The workshop will be held at Le Meridian beginning on the 16^th of April 2012. Union Minister for Tribal Welfare and Panchayati Raj, Mr. Kishore Chandra Deo will be inaugurating this workshop.

The event will be mainly for discussions and topics regarding the ‘priorities for children in 12^th plan’. The event will also witness many other guests including Vandana Kumari Jena (senior adviser to the planning commission), Sudha Pillai (member secretary planning commission) etc.

The event will highlight on child rights. This would be a platform to raise the grievances of children who are abused and subjected to mistreatment often. The crime rate is rising, and hopefully debates and talks on such issues would raise awareness on the issue, and throw light on it.

Are you ready to do your bit for the Earth Hour? Yes Kochiites, we are celebrating World Earth Day on the 31^st of March 2012, and Earth Hour will be observed from 8. 30 p.m- 9. 30 p.m on the same day. Kochi hotels, houses, apartments and shops will be switching off power for 30 minutes, and hence showing their support for Earth Day. Deforestation, Global warming etc. are taking a toll over us, and why don’t we do our bit this time to show our support towards environmental causes!??

Le Meridian Kochi is here with something innovative this year. They will be switching off power, and will be moving the dinner and bar venues to the pool side lawns. “Initiatives like these, especially from star hotels are laudable. Kochi must join hands in taking part for this cause. We must realize the hidden dangers behind certain activities of man, and work for the betterment”, said Saju K, who lives in Kochi.

Earth Day is here. Do your bit by planting a tree. And if that sounds near to impossible, at least conserve energy by switching off the lights and fans for half an hour! What say Kochi?

Kochi hotels have brought home several national laurels. Le Meridian located at Maradu and The Gateway Hotel located at Marine Drive are the latest entries in that list! While Le Meridian won the ‘Best Hotel Based Five Star Convention Hotel’, The Gateway bagged ‘Best Five Star Hotel’ Award. The awards were given away by the President of India.  Chinnu Jimmy, PR Executive of Le Meridian Kochi says that they will strive to live up to their own benchmark now. “This award is a result of our efforts since the last 10 years. We need to keep up to the mark. And we have a long way to go. We will keep on improving”, says Chinnu.

Finally, Kochi Tuskers was launched in a gala event filled with extravaganza and show! The official launch of the logo and the promotional video was held at Hotel Le Meridian in Kochi. The rally that started off supporting the IPL Kochi team was the perfect start to the evening. And we witnessed the players walking in with splendour and grandeur. When the team owners and players, along with the physiotherapist, coach etc. stood on the podium, the evening marked the start to an era- Kochi Tuskers. To add to the glitz, cine star Jayaram was also present at the event. With our pretty lady Ranjini Haridas doing the MC’ing, the evening marked the official entry of the tuskers to the Indian Premier League. Out if the 27 players, only 20 could make it. But that did not reduce the glamour of the event one bit. The coach of the team along with co-owner Vivek Venugopal, took part in the Q & A session. And the best part was, the crowd was awe struck when the players came to the audience and sat beside them when the video was being shown . It definitely feels good when you sit besides International players like McCullum and VVS Laxman to watch their promotional video! What more can IPL fans ask for a start??!! The tuskers are all set to make Kochi proud with their first match on the 9th of April, and let’s wish them the best of luck, and also let them know that, we are with you! Gooooooooo Tuskeeeeeeeersssssss!!!!!!
