The Better Kochi Response Group believes that it is the responsibility of every citizen as well as the Government to make Kochi a better place to live in.
Though active for about four months now, the group was formally inaugurated by the Minister K. V. Thomas recently. At the helm of affairs of the group are some leading professionals from a variety of fields. Mostly, it is — businessmen, engineers, doctors, senior bureaucrats, media persons who have made Kochi their home, either by birth or for professional stake.
Mr. Thomas promised the Kochiites that the Metro project would be taken up in all the seriousness it deserves by the Union Government. The State Government too has agreed to participate in the project in the same manner. While the two Governments would take up equal share of responsibility in a public-public participation to finance the project at Rs. 450 crores, the rest would come from the Plan funds.
Current Projects :
- Vyttila Mobility Hub is a great example where the initial report and physical planning done by BKRG and CII as per the request of District Collector really kick started the project.
- Public toilet model created by BKRG and submitted to the Corporation of Cochin has now become the accepted model which now being by many N.G.Os like CREDAI.
- Four lining of South Over Bridge is pending approval from Railways for a long time for reasons not technical. Four lining of S.A road will become useless unless we do something about South Over Bridge. BKRG is still fighting preparing vision plan for making Tripunithura into an eco – heritage town.
- Installation of biogas plants for individual residents at a subsidized rate.
- Working on a project to improve the water transport system, ideal for Kochi BKRG has come out with a signage for street names which does not get rusted and lasts for a long time.
