You missed two gems of biriyani in Kochi.

One, Chillies above Tandoor Restaurant on M.G. Road. Wonderful Andhra Biriyani and their Mutton Pepper Fry is BEYOND COMPARE. I have never had such beautiful mutton anywhere else in Kochi.

Two, Jeff Biriyani, in thoppumpady. Fantastic Biriyani, unlike anything I've tasted here. Not Malabari, rather mughalai or something like it. Their kebabs are to die for. If I could eat one thing before I die, it would be Jeff's Biriyani. Amazing stuff.

"best" biriyani is not available in ernakulam. "good" biryanis are that from naushad big chef, andhra "chillies" restaurent, grand hotel, biryani from "fry's village restaurent, chittoor road" is also tolerable. and used to be good in ceylon bake house, south. ..however, there are no outlets that sells hyderabad biryani am aware of.

thalasseri dum biryani is awkward tasting atleast in kochi..

but, outside kochi city, there are many good restaurents, bars that serves somewhat satisfiable quality biryanis. especially in untouched eastern towns muvattupuzha and thodupuzha.

1.Mutton Biryani from Hotel Ganga bar TB jn,Muvattupuzha. tastes good. however, they keep 2 or 3 versions and A+ quality biryani is to be asked for.

2.hotel "dhanya"..they have good quality biryani similar to the one that we get during 1980s in kerala. velloorkunnam, muvtupuzha. don't miss it if you are on a cochin-munnar trip.

3."TeeCee Restaurent" Thodupuzha opp jyothi super bazaar. "CB"(chi.biryni) is very good.

4. Sicilia,Thodupuzha.. it is good.

above listed restaurants are quality ones, hygienic and most have A/C and ambiance. and discovered it during bike trips to places like elavizhapoonjira, thommankuth and munnar.

I come from kannur and have a constant craving for good biriyani - anywhere south of cochin has been a terrible experience so far...However i havent found any matching the calicut biriyani or kannur biriyani so far. Red chillies in kadavanthara, chanus opp medical trust both serve good biriyani (matter of fact on some lucky days chanus do make the perfect malabar biryani) Kayeekas at DH road makes good biriyani - but without the proper malabar biryani rice n right amt of pure ghee - it cn never get to perfection - also the dum has to be done on a traditional "virakaduppu (log stow) - to get the perfect mix - these days most restaurants in malabar too serve crap biryani - mostly rice mixed with chicken curry

Dear all, i am an avid biryani fan and i just love to eat biryani for once in a week, i have tried all the placed from top to the lowest, and from all the biriyani that i eaten the best biriyani in kochi i would rate is just biryani, as the prepare the authentic dhum way and use original basmati rice, and flavor and the taste is excellent. Though small shop its deked up with old advertisements of Volkswagen beetle advertisements from 1960.

I strongly suggest to have a biryani from just biryani and what you get a chicken biryani for as low as Rs 60 for a chicken dhum biriyani.
